The COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation is rapidly changing - and with Gov. Sisolak declaring a state of emergency as the first cases are confirmed in Nevada, here are a few things you can do to protect yourself and those around you:

* Prepare, but don't panic. Panic tends to lead to the spread of misinformation. We'll get through this together.
* Know the symptoms. They include a fever, cough or shortness of breath - and may appear two to 14 days after exposure. If you're worried you're experiencing symptoms, please contact your primary care provider first.
* Stay home if you are sick. Going out could worsen the spread of the virus and endanger at-risk populations like our seniors.
* Wash your hands regularly. Use soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your face.
* Cover your mouth and nose with your hand, elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
