John –

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation is rapidly changing – and with Gov. Sisolak declaring a state of emergency as the first cases are confirmed in Nevada, here are a few things you can do to protect yourself and those around you:

  • Prepare, but don't panic. Panic tends to lead to the spread of misinformation. We'll get through this together.
  • Know the symptoms. They include a fever, cough or shortness of breath – and may appear two to 14 days after exposure. If you're worried you're experiencing symptoms, please contact your primary care provider first.
  • Stay home if you are sick. Going out could worsen the spread of the virus and endanger at-risk populations like our seniors.
  • Wash your hands regularly. Use soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Avoid touching your face.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your hand, elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

Please keep yourself and your family updated on local news and the latest from the Centers for Disease Control’s website. And if you need local resources in Nevada or plan to travel soon, you can find additional information through my website.

It's up to us in Washington to provide the resources, support and education Americans need at this time – so I'm working diligently with my colleagues to help keep Nevadans and all Americans across the country as safe as we can.

Thank you for doing your part and taking the necessary steps to stop the spread of coronavirus. Please be safe and take care of yourselves and your families.

All the best,

Catherine
