Dear Community Member,
Following guidance from New York State, including a ban on gatherings of more than 500 people related to the prevention of coronavirus (COVID-19), The Center has made the difficult decision to close, effective Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. We don’t make this decision lightly, but do so in the interest of our community’s health and wellness, which is our top priority. In-person operations are suspended and the building will remain closed indefinitely. All events, meetings and room reservations are canceled until The Center resumes regular operations.
As the situation with COVID-19 continues to progress, we share the sentiments we’ve heard from community members and colleague organizations that we must put the community’s health and wellbeing first, which means making difficult decisions like this. This news also affects our annual Center Dinner, which will no longer occur on Thursday, April 2. We are exploring options around this event, and will share information as it develops. We deeply appreciate everyone’s support.
This is a challenging and stressful time for all New Yorkers, and Center staff are working directly with our current clients to arrange services via teleconference or phone when possible. Center staff who are able to work remotely will do so during our closure, with limited staff available to respond to inquiries and questions related to the interruption in our services. Our phone lines will remain open during this time.
The Center will provide updates as they are available via email, at gaycenter.org and on our social media accounts. If you have had contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider. For more information and updates on COVID-19, please check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ([link removed]) and the NYS Department of Health ([link removed]) websites.
We apologize for this unavoidable disruption, particularly to those who depend on us most. Please know that we are doing everything in our power to ensure that you can connect with us remotely as we navigate this uncertain situation together, as the strong and resilient community that we are.
Sincerely,
Glennda Testone
