Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, I hope that you and your families were able to enjoy a restful and joyful start to the holiday season. As we look ahead to the final month of the year, here are a few items I wanted to share with you: Open enrollment for health insurance coverage in 2024 is here! If you need health coverage starting January 1, you must act by December 15. Visit healthcare.gov to find the right insurance option for you, and if you have any questions about Medicare, Medicaid, or any federal agency issue, please do not hesitate to call my office. I have a dedicated team of caseworkers who are here to assist you. This week, I was proud to join the Red Cross on Capitol Hill and write cards to our service members who may be away from their loved ones during the upcoming holidays. We owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women who sacrifice so much so that we can continue to enjoy our freedoms here at home. This week, we observed the 30-year anniversary of the Brady Bill becoming law. Named for injured White House Press Secretary James Brady, this law implemented federal background checks on firearms, which remain a critical part of our gun safety processes. On the same day, we commemorated the two-year anniversary of the mass shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan. And this last week marked 11 years since I lost my own son Jordan in a senseless shooting. These somber anniversaries remind us all of our continued responsibility to pursue common-sense gun violence prevention policies. To that end, I co-led a letter on Friday with my colleagues Congresswoman Robin Kelly and Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin in support of a proposed rule to expand background check requirements for gun sellers not previously classified as a Federal firearm licensee. To learn more about this proposed rule, see this press release from my office. Thank you for taking the time to read this update. It is my honor to serve our community in Congress. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office. Sincerely, Lucy McBath Member of Congress By participating in or clicking this survey, you will be subscribed to receive e-newsletter updates. Office of Rep.
