MoCo DSA this week

We have a world to win, and the Bernie Sanders campaign still needs us! Despite trailing Biden in delegates, Bernie is still very much in this race. About half of U.S. states haven't even voted yet, with about 2000 delegates still up for grabs.

That's why the Maryland primary on April 28 is even more important now than ever! Please help us canvass for Bernie in Maryland this weekend! We're meeting at 12:30 pm on Saturday - more info is here ([link removed]) and below.

Our chapter is also planning a debate watch party for Sunday, in Silver Spring - more info is below. The campaign also still needs us to make calls and texts to other states - please sign up here ([link removed]) !

Good Reads

In Jacobin: "Democratic Socialism is Fighting for Regular, Working-Class People ([link removed]) " - an interview with McKayla Wilkes by MDC DSA's very own Irene Koo! "Twenty-nine-year-old Mckayla Wilkes, inspired and emboldened by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s victory over longtime incumbent Joe Crowley, announced in March 2019 that she would be mounting a primary challenge against the second-most powerful Democrat elected official in the country. Although Wilkes does not have the traditional background or credentials of the typical congressional candidate, she emphasizes that Hoyer and the Democratic establishment have, for decades, failed to address the needs of working communities and people of color and fight for needed change."

In the New York Times: "A $60 Billion Housing Grab by Wall Street ([link removed]) " by Francesca Mari. "Hundreds of thousands of single-family homes are now in the hands of giant companies — squeezing renters for revenue and putting the American dream even further out of reach."

In Current Affairs: "Academics Cannot Evade Their Public Responsibilities ([link removed]) " by Nathan J. Robinson. "Academics are actively discouraged from being part of the popular discourse. They are supposed to be focusing on writing material that is interesting only to other academics...But academics’ evasion of their public responsibilities partly explains why we have such shallow media conversations. This cannot go on: Academics have a responsibility not just to make new knowledge, but to spread that knowledge as far and wide as possible."
