With the recent uptick of hate in the country, our work has become all
the more important. Just a few weeks ago, the FBI released its latest
hate crime report, which documented the highest number of hate crimes
recorded since the agency began collecting data. Newly implemented
laws disenfranchise large swaths of voters, especially in Black
communities and low-income areas. Additionally, states continue
enacting laws that restrict inclusive education.

But there is hope.

At the SPLC, we've worked tirelessly to counteract the threats
to our democracy. Some of our work in 2023 includes:

Challenging the use of a redistricting map that denies equal
representation to Black voters in Abbeville, Louisiana.
Helping preserve one of the first American towns incorporated by newly
emancipated Black people in Eatonville, Florida, from a massive
commercial redevelopment.
Supporting a slate of voting rights bills at the federal level that
would reinstate the full powers of the Voting Rights Act of 1965;
improve ballot access for people with disabilities and racial and
language minorities; and protect the voting rights of unhoused
citizens.

We cannot let hate and extremism be the order of the day. Your help
will give us the tools needed to fend off white supremacist tactics
and promote sensible policies that make education inclusive, expand
voting rights, dismantle white supremacy and uphold democracy.
