Let me let you in on a little secret, John:

Running a campaign is hard. I helped run Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign in 1992 to defeat George H.W. Bush, and it was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done.

It’s a lot of long days traveling and meeting folks.

It requires money — a whole lot of it.

And it requires some tough skin.

But it was also one of the greatest experiences of my life. Because of the work we put in, we got some incredible things done for the American people.

More than 22 million new jobs were created. Lowest unemployment in 30 years. Doubled investment into education. The highest number of Americans owning homes in history.

And that’s just the beginning. You think Republicans could’ve done that?

No chance in hell.

But things were different back then. Sure, we were fighting over very important issues — but the stakes have increased tenfold in the last few decades.

Now it’s about the basic truth. It’s about stopping a demagogue who wants to overturn our election and his allies who want to enable it.

I am damn proud to be a Democrat today and every day. But I know that we have a lot of work to do to continue winning and protecting the country we know and love.
