Dear OCCRP Reader,

There are likely fewer than 10,000 investigative journalists working full-time in the world today.

OCCRP is one of the only organizations fighting this existential threat to democracy on a global level by training the next generation of journalists and funding their investigations.

Wherever we investigate, we dedicate resources towards identifying and training local reporters — people who speak the language, know the political landscape, and understand the rot of corruption we wish to expose.

We do this because we don’t believe in “parachute journalism.” We’re committed to giving every journalist, regardless of where they’re from, access to the same cybersecurity, open-source-research, and data trainings as their counterparts in New York, London, Paris, or Sydney.

Your help is critical here. With your support, we can foster a culture of hard-hitting investigative journalism everywhere. Together, we can ensure that investigative journalists everywhere have the funding they need.

Bring Investigative Journalism Everywhere.

Our commitment in cultivating local talent can be traced to the beginnings of OCCRP. Take Miranda Patrucic from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She started as an intern after she met OCCRP Co-Founder Drew Sullivan in Sarajevo in 2004. Miranda is now our editor-in-chief.

Ten years later, the OCCRP network has expanded to new regions well-beyond Europe. In the past two years, we’ve launched reporting teams in South Asia and the Pacific, where we collaborate with several talented reporters.

In this video, our colleague Kila Wani explains how OCCRP has helped her better expose corruption in her home country of Papua New Guinea.

"We want to be able to bring in conversation that drives change, conversation that allows people to speak without fear or favor, and we want to be able to impact change on the floor of our Parliament." — Kila Wani, Co-Founder of InsidePNG

Kila will likely report on more and more stories of global significance in the coming years. The Pacific region has become a hotspot in the growing rivalry between the West and China. As a result, government officials and natural resources in the region are increasingly being targeted by organized crime, multinationals, and geopolitical power brokers looking to buy influence and steer local politics.

By making a donation, you’ll not only support Kila and other journalists in our global network — you’ll help us train young people ([link removed]) who have what it takes to expose high level crime and corruption.
Thank you for your time,
— The OCCRP Team
