Good News for the Arctic
Last week, Wells Fargo released an update to its environmental policy that rules out funding for oil and gas projects in the Arctic region, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The release of this change to the bank’s policy comes in the wake of similar announcements by Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, as well as more than a dozen other global banks. The pressure is working—so let’s keep it up.

Is Your Toothpaste Toxic?
Better brush your teeth—or else. But even "natural" toothpastes have ingredients that can be toxic to humans, animals, or the environment. And good luck recycling that empty tube. But Ms. Green has a solution.

Shooting an Apocalypse
Monster wildfires in Australia wreaked havoc on wildlife and habitats. They claimed the lives of an estimated 1 billion animals this fire season. Photographer Philip Blenkinsop traveled to Canberra to bear witness to a climate catastrophe happening in real time.

Apocalyptic is not too far-fetched an adjective.

Building Our Own Bridge
Industry lobbyists and too many politicians still refer to fossil gas as a "bridge fuel” to clean energy, even though fracked gas power plants make the air dangerous to breathe and gas emissions keep us on the path to catastrophic climate change. Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune says it’s time to move past the myth of “clean” gas for good.

Here’s one way we can do that.

Why Are the Feds Cutting Pinon-Juniper Forests?
[link removed]
The Bureau of Land Management and other public lands agencies are clearcutting pinon-juniper forests across the mountain West for reasons that are dubious at best. According to Johnnie Bobb, chief of the national council of the Western Shoshone, the cutting often occurs without warning or consultation.

We Can Change the Ride-Hailing Industry
Ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft are both convenient and omnipresent, but a growing mountain of evidence points to the conclusion that they're making climate change worse and perpetuating a car-dependent landscape. Does that mean we should stop using them? Not necessarily, writes Rebekah Whilden, who works on the Sierra Club's clean transportation campaign.

But we should insist that they do better and hold them to their promises of sustainability.

Go Solar and Support the Sierra Club
In 2019, thousands of Sierra Club supporters expressed interest in going solar with SunPower. Many have since installed solar systems or will be doing so soon. We're excited to continue working with SunPower in 2020 to help even more people transition to clean, renewable energy. When you go solar with SunPower you get a $1,000 mail-in rebate—and the Sierra Club receives $1,000 to support our work fighting for clean air and water and protecting the health of our communities.
