More Good News for the Arctic

Last week, Wells Fargo released an update to its environmental policy that rules out funding for oil and gas projects in the Arctic region, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The release of this change to the bank’s policy comes in the wake of similar announcements by Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, as well as more than a dozen other global banks. The pressure is working—so let’s keep it up.

A Sacred Place

Ramón Cruz, who serves as vice-president on the Sierra Club’s board of directors, visited the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge last summer to learn more about the Indigenous people and unique wildlife threatened by Trump’s plan to hold oil and gas lease sales. His conclusion?

“We have to keep the pressure on and fight the Trump administration’s plan every step of the way.”

We Can Change the Ride-Hailing Industry

Ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft are both convenient and omnipresent, but a growing mountain of evidence points to the conclusion that they're making climate change worse and perpetuating a car-dependent landscape. Does that mean we should stop using them? Not necessarily, writes Rebekah Whilden, who works on the Sierra Club's clean transportation campaign.

But we should insist that they do better and hold them to their promises of sustainability.
