Explore Thanksgiving Traditions through Primary Sources

Dear John,

It is hard, if not impossible, to get through November without seeing some kind of imagery related to the Pilgrims. Their story and the story of the Thanksgiving they held have become part of our national history. Perhaps it is because they celebrated thankfulness. Or perhaps it is because of the political example they set upon arriving in North America. Whatever the case, their actions and story remain alive 400 years.

In these two elessons, you and your students can explore the history and legacy of the Mayflower Compact as well as the history of thankfulness in the United States. Doing so might just give you a few more conversation topics as you reach for that second helping of turkey and stuffing.

Extension Activity: Share one of our best-loved podcasts with your students.
