John,

I wanted to give you a brief update about the COVID-19 outbreak, and the steps we are taking in Congress to keep our state safe and healthy:

Earlier this week, Congress passed a bipartisan bill for emergency funding to address the outbreak of the coronavirus in the United States. This bill allocates $8.3 billion, and among many other things, provides resources to boost testing for the virus and provide treatment to those already infected. Many of those dollars will go straight to Washington State, where the need is high and increasing.

Friday it was signed into law and is a step in the right direction to ensuring states have the resources necessary to keep our communities safe. To read more about the bill, click here:

As a doctor and as your Congresswoman, the health and well-being of all Washingtonians is my utmost priority. I will continue to do everything in my power to slow the spread of this disease, protect our first responders and healthcare workers, support research, and protect vulnerable populations.

- If you believe you're showing symptoms call the Washington Department of Health at 1-800-525-0127, then press #.

- It is important to stay home if you are ill so that you don't expose others. We all need to take personal responsibility.

- Seek medical care if respiratory symptoms are significant / severe. High fever alone is not a reason to seek medical care. Right now, going to the doctor if you don't need hospital care puts you and others at risk.

- If you have a condition that makes you more vulnerable, and think you may have COVID-19, call your doctor.

- For more information about the coronavirus, please visit the CDC's website and ensure you're following their tips for prevention.

- If you live in Washington, Washington State Department of Health guidelines are more appropriate than CDC guidelines. We are in a higher risk area.

- Remember to wash your hands often, avoid touching your face, and stay home if you're sick.

I will continue to monitor the spread of the virus in Washington State and keep you updated.

Thanks,

Kim
