Using Lesser Known Portions of the VRA, New Lawsuits Aim To Protect Voters ([link removed])

Here are a few updates.
* In Florida, voting rights groups appealed ([link removed]) the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging the state’s wet signature rule, which requires some individuals to submit their voter registration applications with an “original” pen-on-paper signature.
* Michigan's Democratic-controlled Legislature passed ([link removed]) a bill to allow individuals ages 16 to 17 and a half to pre-register to vote. The legislation heads to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) for her likely signature.
* Also in Michigan, former President Donald Trump's eligibility to be on the 2024 election ballot in the state is being challenged ([link removed]) .
* Louisiana Republicans asked ([link removed]) for the full U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear a decision upholding a 1992 agreement requiring Louisiana to have a majority-Black district for state Supreme Court elections.
* Cities in Maryland voted ([link removed]) oppositely on measures allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections. Voters in Greenbelt approved the measure while Rockville voters rejected a similar proposal.
* Senate Democrats confirmed ([link removed]) President Joe Biden’s 150th federal judge, 100 of whom are women and people of color.
* Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost (R) accepted ([link removed]) new language for a ballot initiative to establish an independent redistricting commission in the state. The group behind the proposal had to resubmit language due to a single typo.

* In Wisconsin, there is a motion for summary judgment hearing ([link removed]) in a lawsuit brought by a right-wing group challenging the state’s use of an online absentee ballot application portal.
