Daily Docket — Thursday, Nov. 9

Here are a few updates.

  • In Florida, voting rights groups appealed the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging the state’s wet ink signature rule, which requires some individuals to submit their voter registration applications with an “original” pen-on-paper signature.

  • Michigan's Democratic-controlled Legislature passed a bill to allow individuals ages 16 to 17 and a half to pre-register to vote. The legislation heads to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) for her likely signature.

  • Also in Michigan, former President Donald Trump's eligibility to be on the 2024 election ballot in the state is being challenged

  • Louisiana Republicans asked for the full U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear a decision upholding a 1992 agreement requiring Louisiana to have a majority-Black district for state Supreme Court elections.

  • Cities in Maryland voted oppositely on measures allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections. Voters in Greenbelt approved the measure while Rockville voters rejected a similar proposal.

  • Senate Democrats confirmed President Joe Biden’s 150th federal judge, 100 of whom are women and people of color.

  • Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost (R) accepted new language for a ballot initiative to establish an independent redistricting commission in the state. The group behind the proposal had to resubmit language due to a single typo.

Here’s what’s coming up.

  • In Wisconsin, there is a motion for summary judgment hearing in a lawsuit brought by a right-wing group challenging the state’s use of an online absentee ballot application portal.
