NOW Hear This
Message from National NOW President Christian F. Nunes
November 3, 2023
Greetings Feminists,
Next Tuesday, November 7, officially marks Election Day. Across the country, there will be a number of races, including local, state legislative, and gubernatorial elections. Voting is our constitutional right, and it is the perfect time to make our voices heard regarding the injustices we’ve seen over the past year.
While federal and presidential elections hold great importance, local elections do not often get as much attention despite being critical in deciding what happens in our communities. Our daily lives are largely affected by who gets elected to our school boards, city councils, or mayoral offices. Let’s ensure that the people in those positions reflect and represent our shared values of equity and justice.
The power to vote means we have the power to change lives. And we must use that power to ensure that our rights remain intact, not just for us but for the generations that will come after. This is a pivotal time in our country. Like the NOW members that came before, we will make certain that we are standing on the right side of history.
In solidarity,
Christian
NOW IN THE NEWS
• It’s November, and that means it’s time to get out the vote. Christian F. Nunes talks with the award-winning organizer, political strategist, and Black Renaissance woman LaTosha Brown about her work organizing and empowering Black voters across the U.S. Black Voters Matter Fund played a crucial role in increasing voter turnout in the 2020 U.S. Senate election in Georgia to turn the state Blue. Nunes and Brown discuss effective organizing strategies, how to boost political resilience and agency, and why positive change is still happening at a grassroots level, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.
