In the wake of last week's horrific mass shooting in Maine, President Biden didn't mince words:

" Who the hell needs an assault weapon that can hold, in some cases, up to 100 rounds?" - President Biden, 10/27/2023

President Biden is right: we desperately need to ban assault weapons like the one used in Maine so we can keep our communities safe.

Look, I proudly led the effort to expand community behavioral health clinics nationwide. But providing access to better mental health services isn't enough if we're going to stop another tragedy in our community.

We also need to make it harder for people seeking to harm others to get their hands on assault weapons like the one used in Maine.

After February's mass shooting at Michigan State University, I called on Congress to pass a bill that I co-sponsored that would ban military-style assault weapons.

It's time for Congressional Republicans to join Democrats and President Biden in supporting a ban.
