But providing access to better mental health services isn't enough if we're going to stop another tragedy in our community. We also need to make it harder for people seeking to harm others to get their hands on assault weapons like the one used in Maine. After February's mass shooting at Michigan State University, I called on Congress to pass a bill that I co-sponsored that would ban military-style assault weapons. It's time for Congressional Republicans to join Democrats and President Biden in supporting a ban. ![]()
