Folks,
It's not every day that Oprah calls.

But she did -- and she wanted to speak with me about the brave women and girls I work with who are stranded in Mexico by U.S. policies that have slammed the door on families fleeing violence.

My interview with Oprah, which comes out today on Apple TV, highlights the resilience of the women I work with every single day and their hope for their family’s future.

Oprah wanted to show these women’s stories to the world and give her viewers a way to help. So I told her how IRC, with its local partners, provides women with urgently needed support, including cash material assistance, safe spaces to express themselves and seek support, and counseling to help them recover from trauma.

None of this work is possible without the support of people like you. Please, will you donate today to join Oprah and the IRC in reaching more women in desperate need? Your gift will support refugees in Mexico and worldwide.

The IRC was the first aid organization to have a unit devoted to women and girl's safety. My job involves helping women fleeing violence within their community and on their journey. Many are coming from places like El Salvador, where they say life is like a war zone.

One woman is murdered every 2.5 hours in Mexico, making it one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a woman.

The IRC’s lifesaving programs in Mexico and around the world give women and girls the tools they need to get through such nightmares and reclaim their futures.

Giving to others really is our chance to live out our humanity. As Oprah says, "It's the best thing you can do." Please will you chip in today?

The journey to the border itself is dangerous.

But no one takes the decision to migrate lightly. Many have left behind harrowing situations -- persecution by gangs and cartels -- in Central America, Cuba, Brazil and Venezuela, where they and their families were no longer able to safely go about their daily lives.

I told Oprah that when they reach the border, women remain vulnerable to the same type of exploitation, abuse and the targeted violence that forced them to flee in the first place. And now changes to U.S. policies are putting them in even greater danger.

That's why I am asking you to donate today. It can have an incredible impact on the lives of displaced women and others in need.

As International Women's day approaches, please join Oprah and the IRC in our effort to change HER story and the lives of women and vulnerable people worldwide.

And please do watch my interview with Oprah today on Apple TV. As one woman who watched it said: "...before this conversation I felt helpless and hopeless. Knowing that organizations like the International Rescue Committee are out there is so encouraging. I will donate to them as soon as I get home."

Oprah's interview with me is a call for all of us to stand with brave women in Mexico.

Please donate to join Oprah and Camille in Changing HER-story and rescuing lives worldwide »

With hope and sincerity,
