John,
Plastic waste can be found in almost every corner of the planet. It lasts hundreds to thousands of years, and its toxic remains pose serious challenges.
Despite this, Big Oil is creating way more plastic than we need. It’s on a mission to build even more dirty infrastructure and continue flooding the market with plastics. But we can stop Big Oil’s plastic-palooza, starting by urging our members of Congress to support the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act.

The Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act was reintroduced in Congress this week by Senator Jeff Merkley (OR) and Representative Jared Huffman (CA). This important legislation would reduce plastic pollution and help build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future by:
- Shifting the burden of our plastic pollution nightmare to where it belongs — on the corporations.
- Establishing aggressive reduction for single-use plastic.
- Reducing and banning certain single-use plastic products that are not recyclable.
- Pressing pause on new plastic facilities until critical environment justice and health protections are put in place.
STOP PLASTICS!

The Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act is the most comprehensive set of policy solutions around plastic pollution ever to be introduced in Congress. Several states have already passed laws to reduce plastic pollution and ban single-use plastic bags – now, we can do it across the country.
Our planet, people, wildlife, and waterways are being harmed and polluted by corporations and plastics – and it’s up to all of us to stand up and stop it! Send a message to your members of Congress: It’s time to break free from plastics!
