With just 14 hours remaining until our final report before Election Day, I wanted to share some important updates and reflections on our journey so far. Four years ago, when I was elected as the first woman and the first Democrat in two decades to lead the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney's Office, I knew we had an immense task ahead of us.
Our mission has been to build a criminal justice system that embodies equality, justice, and integrity. Over these years, we've made remarkable progress, and I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved together. We've stood up to the divisive interference by MAGA state and national politicians who have tried to bring their politics into our courts. [link removed] [[link removed]] Buta Biberaj is the first woman ever and the first Democrat in more than 20 years elected to serve as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County, Virginia. Buta has modernized the office to focus resources on prosecuting violent crimes, tripling the number of prosecutors focused on domestic violence and sexual assault cases, and investing in prevention programs for veterans and those facing drug addiction and mental health needs. Buta’s approach is working: Since 2019, safety is up and violent crime is down 31%.
