I know that we’re almost becoming immune to big numbers these days, but still …

**$1.5 billion.**

How many students could that help?

How many failing schools could be put on the right track?

How many …

*Well*, never mind all that. **Texas House Republicans think the best use of $1.5 billion is to build a border wall.**

I remember when a *different* Republican said he would build a border wall. So for those who think a border wall is a good idea, rather than a racist, anti-immigrant dog whistle, maybe that guy should pay for it.

For those of us living here in reality, **$1.5 billion could do a lot to help our state — starting with public education.**

Texas House Republicans have a rabid base to answer to, so maybe they have to propose stupid ideas like this. The rest of us, however — the *majority* of Texans — don’t have to go along.
