9th Circuit Affirms Dismissal of Lake and Finchem's Voting Machines Lawsuit ([link removed])
By Madeleine Greenberg
Here are some recent updates.
* The 9th U.S Circuit Court of Appeals rejected ([link removed]) Kari Lake and Mark Finchem's lawsuit seeking to ban electronic voting machines in Arizona. This affirms a lower court ruling that dismissed the case for lack of standing and called their claims "conjectural allegations."
+ Despite still challenging ([link removed]) her gubernatorial loss from 2022, Lake launched ([link removed]) her campaign for U.S. Senate last week.
* Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry (R) won ([link removed]) the state’s election for governor. Landry is currently defending the state's congressional and legislative maps in court. Black voters and civil rights groups argue that the maps violate Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by diluting Black voting power.
+ In the same election, Louisiana voters approved an amendment to ban private funding for already chronically underfunded election offices.
* A federal court in New Mexico began ([link removed]) trial in a lawsuit challenging the state's ability to criminally prosecute the Voter Reference Foundation for violating state laws that protect voter data.
