What’s at Stake in Pennsylvania’s State Supreme Court Race? ([link removed])
By Paige Anderholm
Here are some updates from today.
* North Carolina's Republican-controlled Legislature overrode ([link removed]) Gov. Roy Cooper's (D) veto of two anti-voting bills — Senate Bills 747 and 749 — enacting the legislation into law.
* Minutes after Republican lawmakers overrode Cooper’s veto, voting rights groups sued ([link removed]) over part of North Carolina's new omnibus voter suppression law, S.B. 747, arguing that it violates the First and 14th Amendments.
* Another lawsuit was filed ([link removed]) by the Democratic National Committee challenging different provisions of S.B.747.
* Louisiana filed ([link removed]) its response in the U.S. Supreme Court to Black voters and civil rights groups' emergency request for a hearing on new congressional districts. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the hearing to be canceled, delaying a fair map.
* Today is the last day to register to vote in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Ohio and Texas. Double-check your registration to make sure your voices are heard in the important state and local elections on Nov. 7. Register here ([link removed]) .
Here’s what to expect coming up.
* Tomorrow at 10 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral argument in a case alleging that South Carolina's congressional map is racially gerrymandered. It's the Court's first election case of this term. Follow along on Twitter ([link removed]) and Threads ([link removed]) as we provide live updates during the argument and learn more here.
