** Reaching out: Supporting services to engage with the most vulnerable drinkers
18 October - 19 October 2023
------------------------------------------------------------

The people facing the most serious alcohol issues often face the greatest difficulties accessing support. At this online learning event, we’ll be discussing how we can better reach out to vulnerable drinkers.

Speakers include:
* Mike Ward from Alcohol Change UK, on why cognitive impairment is about much more than Alcohol-related Brain Damage.
* Cardiff and the Vale Drug and Alcohol Service (CAVDAS), on the benefits of undertaking assertive street outreach with peer supporters.
* Adfam, sharing experiences of adults living with an intimate partner’s alcohol use.
* Recovery Cymru, on the uniqueness of every recovery journey and how services need to respond.
* Gemma Yarwood from Manchester Metropolitan University, on end-of-life care for people with substance use issues.

If you want to understand how best to help those in greatest need, then this is the conference for you.

** Government consults on proposals to encourage more people to choose no and low-alcohol drinks
------------------------------------------------------------

The government has launched a public consultation to make alternatives to alcoholic drinks more popular and more widely available and is seeking views on whether to raise the threshold for describing a drink as “alcohol free” from 0.05% to 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). The deadline for responses is 23 November 2023.

Alcohol Change UK warmly welcomes the consultation ([link removed]) and believes it will be of benefit to consumers, leading to even more people replacing alcoholic with non-alcoholic adult drinks even more often.
