John,

For over 50 years, the late Georgia Congressman John Lewis fought to uplift communities of color, risking his life in the segregated South so that people could exercise their constitutional right to vote. His vision led to one of the greatest achievements in our nation’s history, the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Yet in recent years, vicious attacks on these fundamental rights have eroded American democracy, in the form of appalling voting restrictions emerging in Republican-led states.

Republican voter suppression efforts—from Florida to Georgia to Texas—are rooted in Jim Crow–era tactics. They not only target communities of color, but also suppress the votes of women, people with disabilities, students, and those in poverty.

But Congress has the power to turn back this dark tide. Passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will safeguard our democracy from those who seek to undermine it.

Sign if you agree: Passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will strengthen our democracy. [[link removed]]

It’s time for Congress to honor the great John Lewis and remove unfair barriers to free and fair elections.

In solidarity,
Ro
