Libia sells her coffee to the local cooperative. "It’s important to
protect our land because that’s our water, our environment, our health,
our food: the most essential things to human life," she shares.


Caficauca, the local coffee cooperative, works with about 50 percent of
growers in the region and has 35 purchasing centers to buy coffee from
farmers. With Mercy Corps’ support, the co-op teaches farmers practices
like solid waste collection to avoid water contamination, and tree
planting for carbon capture.
This is one example of how Mercy
Corps is working at the frontlines of climate change to help communities
develop new sustainable practices.
