ACLU Supporter – as students across the country head back to school, millions of them will be faced with a harsh reality: censored curriculums and lists of books they are banned from reading.

This is happening everywhere:

* Earlier this year in Florida, Gov. DeSantis blocked the teaching of an AP African American Studies course.

* In Oklahoma, teachers are resigning over a law that bans them from discussing race and gender.

* At the same time, schools across the country have banned hundreds of books by and about marginalized identities.

But here at the ACLU, we firmly believe – and know – that all students have a First Amendment right to education free of discrimination and censorship.

We're not new to these attacks, either. We've led the fight for the right to learn and read since we successfully lifted a nationwide ban on James Joyce's Ulysses in 1933. And today, we're still fighting back – striking down Florida's "Stop WOKE Act," protecting Missouri students from the state's unconstitutional book ban law, speaking up for affirmative action, and much more.

Simply put: Book bans and school censorship are wrong, period. But to continue fighting against the latest wave of school censorship, we need your support.

That's why we've set a goal to have 1,330 donors support our work by Friday to help fight back against school censorship and protect students' First Amendment rights. ACLU Supporter, can we count on you to donate generously today? <[link removed]>

Your donation will help us keep up this fight to ensure the next generation has the freedom to learn – and the education they need to build a more perfect union. <[link removed]>

Thanks for believing in this work,

ACLU
