NPP CEO Kadida Kenner is excited to announce the addition of James-Brian Byers to the New Pennsylvania Project organizing team!
James-Brian Byers is the new Regional Organizing Director for the Allegheny County region.
A longtime resident of the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, James-Brian is passionate about the importance of registering, encouraging, and activating those who feel that they have been left out of the American political system. James-Brian is passionate about building effective and impactful actions and campaigns that can do the work of the People. He has served in various positions in non-profits, politics, and government.
James-Brian is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He is an avid amateur athlete having completed several marathons, duathlons, and plays soccer, skis, and scuba dives whenever and wherever possible! James-Brian is a graduate of the MSW program at Temple University and resides in Allegheny County with his family.

How Pennsylvania’s judicial elections could impact the state’s future [[link removed]]

Though it may be an off-year for most elections, Pennsylvania voters will cast their ballot in several statewide elections in November that could have enormous consequences for the future of the state...State judicial elections don’t typically get much attention or voter turnout, especially if the election won’t change the balance of power in the court. The outcome of these elections, however, could have enormous implications down the line for the future of democracy in the Commonwealth because of how they’ll shape the partisan makeup of the courts for future elections.

"As a Black man in this country, I’m well aware of the importance of voting. It’s a responsibility of each eligible citizen/voter in this country. It not only allows for the voiceless to be heard, but it also bolsters the integrity of our democracy while shifting the electorate and subsequently our elected officials in a way that more accurately reflects the demographics of our country. A democracy depends on all of its citizens to be active in political and civic life. Part of that participation is voting. Unfortunately, 33 percent of all eligible Black men in Pennsylvania are not registered to vote."

News You Can Use - Courts Edition
A Pa. Supreme Court race this fall could have big implications for the 2024 presidential election [[link removed]]

Pennsylvania voters will elect a new state Supreme Court justice this fall — and some big 2024 presidential election decisions could be at stake. The state Supreme Court has deadlocked on some election cases over the last year, so the November election to fill a vacant seat could determine how the court leans on voting issues.
