NPP in the News

How Pennsylvania’s judicial elections could impact the state’s future

(The American Independent)

Though it may be an off-year for most elections, Pennsylvania voters will cast their ballot in several statewide elections in November that could have enormous consequences for the future of the state...State judicial elections don’t typically get much attention or voter turnout, especially if the election won’t change the balance of power in the court. The outcome of these elections, however, could have enormous implications down the line for the future of democracy in the Commonwealth because of how they’ll shape the partisan makeup of the courts for future elections.

Federal court appointments have impact

(Chestnut Hill Local)

“There is an intersection between the issues you care about and our federal courts because they are pretty much the final arbitrator of all the things we care about,” Kadida Kenner added. “It’s important that we advocate… and we know about the process —- there’s so many more [people] who have no idea.”

Candidates Need To Give Black Men A Tangible Reason To Vote

(Bucks County Beacon)

"As a Black man in this country, I’m well aware of the importance of voting. It’s a responsibility of each eligible citizen/voter in this country. It not only allows for the voiceless to be heard, but it also bolsters the integrity of our democracy while shifting the electorate and subsequently our elected officials in a way that more accurately reflects the demographics of our country. A democracy depends on all of its citizens to be active in political and civic life. Part of that participation is voting. Unfortunately, 33 percent of all eligible Black men in Pennsylvania are not registered to vote."

A Pa. Supreme Court race this fall could have big implications for the 2024 presidential election

(Philadelphia Inquirer)

Pennsylvania voters will elect a new state Supreme Court justice this fall — and some big 2024 presidential election decisions could be at stake. The state Supreme Court has deadlocked on some election cases over the last year, so the November election to fill a vacant seat could determine how the court leans on voting issues.

How will Pa. fix its unconstitutional school funding system? Lawmakers are starting to look for answers

(Philadelphia Inquirer)

On Tuesday, state lawmakers kicked off a series of hearings with educators, policy expects union leaders, students and others about how to fix the state’s unconstitutional school funding system.

State Supreme Court To Decide If Cities Can Enact Stiffer Gun Laws Than State

(PoliticsPA)

The state Supreme Court heard arguments this week in a case challenging the state’s gun preemption law, which prohibits local governments from passing stricter gun laws than those in effect at the state level.

What to Expect in Pennsylvania's Special Election

(Associated Press)

For the third time in less than eight months, a special election will decide control of the narrowly divided Pennsylvania House of Representatives and provide political reinforcements to either the commonwealth’s Democratic governor or its Republican-controlled Senate.
