History in Nashville: Olivia Hill will be the first trans person to serve in public office in Tennessee
Yesterday, LGBTQ+ Victory Fund candidate Olivia Hill won an at-large seat on the Nashville-Davidson County Metro Council, making her the first transgender candidate to win public office in Tennessee history! Sarah McBride is way up in a new primary poll
Great news in Delaware: LGBTQ+ Victory Fund candidate Sarah McBride is the clear frontrunner in the Democratic primary for Congress according to a new poll [[link removed]] commissioned by Human Rights Campaign Equality Votes PAC. In the poll of likely primary voters, Sarah gets 44% – far ahead of her opponents, who earned 23% and 18%. Read more about the poll in The Hill . [[link removed]]

Black LGBTQ+ lawmakers protest human rights crisis in Nigeria
Last month, police in Nigeria arrested hundreds of people who were attending a wedding ceremony for a gay couple, humiliating them by parading them in front of the media. Dozens of attendees remain detained and the law is not on their side – homosexuality is punishable by up to 14 years in prison in Nigeria. In response, a group of Black LGBTQ+ elected officials protested the arrest [[link removed]] and ongoing human rights crisis outside the Nigerian embassy in Washington, DC.

“We’re here to demand that Nigeria release all the detainees and drop all the charges because in a world that is increasingly recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion, Nigeria discriminatory laws against the LGBT community remain a stain on its reputation,” said Maryland Delegate Ashanti Martinez . [[link removed]] “These laws not only perpetuate prejudice, but also infringe upon the fundamental human rights of countless individuals.”
