Our latest New Perspectives Bursary project comes from Katie Dancey-Downs, a writer and journalist based in the New Forest National Park.

Katie’s project, New Children of the New Forest, follows three young people – a shark expert, a secret agent, and a teenager preserving ancient traditions and shares their stories of dedication to defending their New Forest homes.

ARE WE ON TRACK FOR NATURE 2030?

In 2021 the UK Government committed to protecting 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030, but just how well are they doing?

On 5 September from 6-7pm the charity Wildlife and Countryside Link will be holding an online event to launch their 30x30 annual progress report to answer this question. Our Chief Executive Dr Rose O’Neill will be speaking at the event.

PLANNING FREE-FOR-ALL

The Government is proposing to remove the need for planning permission when converting barns and other rural buildings in National Parks. If they go ahead, these measures will result in an increase of isolated properties in unsustainable locations and will do nothing to deliver much-needed affordable housing.

We secured an exemption for National Parks when similar proposals were first suggested in 2014 and we will be campaigning to ensure the exemption is retained.

TURNING THE TIDE ON WATER POLLUTION

Rivers, lakes and waterways give precious life to our National Parks. But right now they’re in a desperate condition, overcome by foul sewage and toxic chemicals. That’s why we’re telling politicians that enough is enough – and we need your help.

We've partnered with River Action UK to demand that all political parties take urgent action to clean up our rivers and put powerful new laws in place. If like us you want to see healthy waterways then join the 80,000+ people who have signed and add your name to the Rescue Our Rivers petition.

Together we can make the government commit to real action for our water!
