Campaign for National Parks

Today, responding to our long-running campaign, Government has said it will act to accelerate the recovery of nature in England’s National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This is welcome news after months of disastrous announcements which have been chipping away at our most precious wild spaces.

Our voices have been heard and we want to thank you for your support in helping us reach this point.

TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE AND RESTORING NATURE

Government has promised the following:

  • Delivering enhanced management plans that contribute to key environmental targets – this will ensure Protected Landscapes organisations and their partners collaborate effectively, creating a national network of beautiful, nature-rich spaces that can be enjoyed right across the country.

  • Establishing a new Protected Landscapes Partnership – creation of a new partnership between key groups to deliver a range of exciting projects and programmes on nature recovery and widening access to nature, which will be backed by over £2m of funding.

  • Enhancing support for farming in protected landscapes – extending the Farming in Protected Landscape (FiPL) programme until March 2025 with £10m additional funding each year in recognition of the positive feedback and outcomes delivered so far.

MORE ON THE WIN

WHAT’S NEXT?

While this is a positive news, we will be continuing to call for the wider changes that are needed, if our Protected Landscapes are going to play their full role in accelerating nature’s recovery, delivering strong climate action and ensuring more people have good access to nature.

Can you help us keep Government on track and deliver even more successes for National Parks? Donate today and your support will help us fight for stronger legislation for Protected Landscapes.
