We want to introduce you to a candidate from our New Power, New Politics program to break down barriers for Black, brown, and working-class candidates looking to serve their communities through politics. Today, let’s meet Jamel Campell-Gooch:

Jamel Campbell-Gooch is running for City Council in North Nashville! Jamel grew up in North Nashville and has dedicated his life to organizing and fighting for the area, the highest incarcerated zip code in the nation, to be a healthy, safe, and thriving neighborhood for Black and working-class community members. Jamel believes in a future where Nashville invests significantly in housing, health, and education, to create a community where participatory democracy thrives, affordable housing is accessible, and public safety is rooted in community needs.

Your support allows us to recruit and train exceptional candidates committed to fighting for an equitable democracy one community at a time, like Jamel, through cost-free resources, consulting, and connections.

--

New Politics supports outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future. Β
