You’ve probably heard the claim recently that late-term abortions are rare or nonexistent in the U.S.

Hi John,

You’ve probably heard the claim recently that late-term abortions are rare or nonexistent in the U.S.

Planned Parenthood recently tweeted that “late-term abortion” is a completely “made-up phrase that has no basis in medicine.”

Some pundits, like former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, even claimed that no one supports abortion up to the moment of birth.

Pro-abortion activists, politicians, and media allies are touting these statements online, but what does the data actually say? Here are the facts:

According to the CDC ([link removed] ) , in 2020, 0.9% of abortions were committed after 21 weeks—after a child is capable of surviving outside of the womb.

5.8% of abortions were committed between 14 and 20 weeks, which means that 5,582 abortions were committed after 21 weeks in 2020 alone.

That same year, 35,978 babies were aborted between 14 and 20 weeks.

Although 40,000 lives ended in the second and third trimesters might pale in comparison to the 620,000 babies killed in the first trimester, it is by no means “rare.”

I’m personally 30 weeks pregnant, and I feel my precious little one kicking and moving every day. It’s tragic and heartbreaking to know that these late-term abortion facilities are killing children the same size and age as my preborn daughter.

The reality is that pro-abortion advocates are calling for abortion with no limitations while at the same time claiming that late-term abortions aren’t happening.

It’s simply an attempt to mask their extreme, inhuman position: abortion on demand for any reason up to the moment of birth.

Recently, the pro-abortion American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG) backed this position by announcing it will nationally support abortion up to birth "without limits." You can read about it here: [link removed] ([link removed] )

Supporting abortion until birth is not a popular position. This is why abortion advocates have to lie about how common this gruesome practice is committed.

But the reality is a child killed by abortion at any age is a tragedy, and we must work to ensure complete legal protection for every human being from the moment of fertilization.
