PTSD in Rescued Farm Animals? A Scientific Exploration

During a July virtual roundtable, our Research Team (Lauri Torgerson-White, Sasha Prasad-Shreckengast, and Jenna Holakovsky) introduced our community to their current investigation into whether rescued farm animals can experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Research & Sanctuary Animal Welfare Senior Manager Sasha thoughtfully compiled responses, including what consent looks like for animal participants.

California sanctuary tours received TripAdvisors' 2023 Travelers' Choice award! During hour-long tours and weekend B&B stays, visitors meet and learn about the lived experiences of the survivors who call Farm Sanctuary home.

Spring Sheep Rescue Update

This year, we placed Dottie, Freckles, and Patches — a sheep family from a larger herd rescued from neglect — in a loving home in Florida. Our Farm Animal Adoption Network team continues working with the herd’s rescuer to find loving homes for the entire herd. In August, we began another transport to place a family of five sheep in their new home at Peaceful Fields Sanctuary.
