“Good trouble is an inevitable outcome of finding our people.”
Rev. Rick Behrens, Pastor, Grandview Park Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, KS
Dear John,
As a Gamaliel National Staff member, it is a privilege to spend time with our affiliates across the country. I come away energized and hopeful for the future of that affiliate, its member congregations, and the network-at-large . . . and I come away knowing that I have been with my people who are on a journey to build power together.
Last month I had the opportunity to join our Kansas City (MO/KS) affiliate, Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity—MORE 2 —for a Religious Leaders “Come and See” Event. We enjoyed food, fellowship, and introductions to the work of MORE 2 ; but the most powerful part of the agenda was the reflection provided by Rev. Rick Behrens, MORE 2 .
Rev. Behrens spoke of the challenges he faced trying to find “his people” and the changes in his ministry, his congregation, and his community because he and the congregation found MORE 2 and Gamaliel—their people. He invited the religious leaders who had gathered to consider whether they, too, might find their people in MORE 2 . . . in Gamaliel. “Finding your people makes all the difference in the world; in fact, it makes the world different. So be it and see to it!”
I invite you to hear his words here [[link removed]] and to be blessed in the process.
In solidarity,
Cynthia
