Dear John,
As a Gamaliel National Staff member, it is a privilege to spend time with our affiliates across the country. I come away energized and hopeful for the future of that affiliate, its member congregations, and the network-at-large . . . and I come away knowing that I have been with my people who are on a journey to build power together.
Last month I had the opportunity to join our Kansas City (MO/KS) affiliate, Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity—MORE2—for a Religious Leaders “Come and See” Event. We enjoyed food, fellowship, and introductions to the work of MORE2; but the most powerful part of the agenda was the reflection provided by Rev. Rick Behrens, MORE2.
Rev. Behrens spoke of the challenges he faced trying to find “his people” and the changes in his ministry, his congregation, and his community because he and the congregation found MORE2 and Gamaliel—their people. He invited the religious leaders who had gathered to consider whether they, too, might find their people in MORE2 . . . in Gamaliel. “Finding your people makes all the difference in the world; in fact, it makes the world different. So be it and see to it!”
I invite you to hear his words here and to be blessed in the process.
In solidarity,
Cynthia
