John,
Enough is enough is enough.
There have been 251 mass shootings in America in 216 days. That’s more
mass shootings than there have been days this year.
Children are afraid to go to school. People are afraid to go to religious
services. Movie theaters. College campuses. Music festivals. Grocery
stores. Just about everywhere, people are afraid of being a victim in the
next mass shooting.
And quite frankly, I’m sick and tired of “thoughts and prayers” from
spineless Republican politicians unwilling to stand up to the NRA. It’s
time for them to stop talking and do something!
The Democratic majority in the House has sent the Republican-controlled
Senate TWO gun reform bills to end loopholes and establish universal
background checks. But surprise, surprise -- Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell has refused to bring a vote on either.

need you to sign our petition now demanding McConnell and Senate
Republicans finally take action on gun violence.

So many lives have been taken. So many families have been devastated. So
many communities have been traumatized by these avoidable tragedies at the
hands of gun violence.
And what’s even worse is that Trump and the GOP are refusing to
acknowledge the culture of white supremacy they’ve created.
Countless mass shooters have held shockingly racist views, no doubt fueled
by Trump’s unapologetically hateful and violent rhetoric. They
specifically target people of color and immigrants, bragging on right-wing
message boards of their “triumph.”
Even the suspected domestic terrorist in the El Paso mass shooting posted
an anti-immigrant manifesto online before killing at least 20 people this
weekend. We don’t even know if there are more victims, because people
might be avoiding medical care due to their immigration status.
Let’s call this what it is: white nationalist terrorism.
Our country should be in crisis mode. We are losing children, parents,
family members, teachers, co-workers, friends, and loved ones at the hands
of increased gun violence. White nationalists are targeting people of
color in deadly attacks.
And yet, Donald Trump wants to blame “video games,” “the media,” and
“mental illness” for these horrendous attacks while ignoring the need for
common sense gun control.
His lack of moral compass and self-awareness is shameful. Donald Trump is
to blame. Mitch McConnell is to blame. Republicans deep in the pockets of
special interests like the NRA are to blame. They all have blood on their
hands.
[ [link removed] ]We have the power to end the gun violence epidemic. But not until Mitch
McConnell and Senate Republicans put country over party and stand up to
the NRA. Sign our petition now demanding the Senate reconvene and vote on
the House’s crucial gun reform bills.

My heart goes out to Gilroy, California and El Paso, Texas and Dayton,
Ohio and every other community touched by gun violence. Together, we’re
fighting to make it right.
Thank you,
