[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
At CREW, we are all about transparency—but we don’t stop there. We also push for accountability when we bring important revelations to light.
That means we file requests for information and publish important investigations, but we also file ethics complaints and lawsuits. Our last few weeks of work showcase that breadth:
*
We
filed
an
ethics
complaint
against
Representative
Andrew
Clyde
[[link removed]]
for
introducing,
sponsoring
and
advocating
for
legislation
that
would
benefit
his
firearms
company
*
We
released
a
17
minute
video
[[link removed]]
telling
the
story
of
Donald
Trump’s
escalating
calls
for
violence
and
how
they
led
to
the
insurrection
on
January
6th,
2020
*
We
published
a
blockbuster
report
revealing
communications
between
the
Oath
Keepers
and
the
Secret
Service
[[link removed]]
—and
an
alarming
lack
of
acknowledgment
of
red
flags
on
the
part
of
the
Secret
Service
*
We
worked
with
Common
Cause
to
release
a
report
about
Donald
Trump’s
continuing
threats
to
the
courts
[[link removed]]
and
the
judiciary
*
And,
of
course,
we’re
preparing
to
take
legal
action
to
enforce
Trump’s
disqualification
from
office
under
the
14th
Amendment…
The 14th Amendment is top of mind for many people, so we’ll start there. Interest in disqualification has exploded in the last two weeks, with conservative legal scholars releasing a paper laying out their finding that Trump is disqualified, showing that there is an emerging consensus among experts [[link removed]] . CREW’s Donald Sherman appeared on Lights On with Jessica Denson [[link removed]] to explain our work, and the 14th Amendment was also covered in The Nation [[link removed]] , ABC News [[link removed]] , Forbes [[link removed]] , Las Vegas Sun [[link removed]] , The Guardian [[link removed]] , and Los Angeles Times [[link removed]]
As Donald said in a recent interview, it’s clear that the 14th Amendment was made for this moment—the only question is whether we are up to the challenge of enforcing it. We can tell you right now: we are.
Meanwhile, CREW has doggedly pursued other avenues of accountability for the insurrection, and we continue to track corporate donations to the Sedition Caucus, as ABC News [[link removed]] covered this week.
We requested Secret Service records to better understand the agency’s response to January 6th—and as part of that effort, obtained records of its contacts with the Oath Keepers. Our report was covered in outlets including MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight [[link removed]] , WIRED [[link removed]] , The Daily Beast [[link removed]] , Forbes [[link removed]] , Jacobin [[link removed]] , and New Republic [[link removed]] .
We haven’t forgotten about Trump’s financial corruption, either. We published his personal financial disclosure, which got coverage for including millions in income from cryptocurrency [[link removed]] . The New York Times also referenced our investigations into the Trump family’s business dealings [[link removed]] in an important analysis piece comparing the magnitude of Trump’s foreign income to that of President Biden’s son (who never worked in the White House).
We’ll continue to set the record straight when Eric Trump claims [[link removed]] his family never profited from foreign business while his father was president and poke holes [[link removed]] in Trump’s flimsy legal defenses, all while we prepare to take on our biggest legal fight yet.
