Hey y'all,

According to Brené Brown, “Perfectionism is a self-destructive
and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I
look perfect, live perfectly, and do everything perfectly, I can
avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment, and
blame.” It’s not the same as striving. Perfectionism says that if
you DO not do it ____ enough (insert any adjective here: “smart”,
“fast”, “beautiful”, etc.), you ARE not enough. Perfectionism is
never about perfecting things or tasks; it’s about perfecting the
self. Which, of course, is not possible. And yet we can’t help
ourselves.

From procrastinating to people-pleasing, from micromanaging to
obsessing over mistakes, from never feeling satisfied to never
finishing a task, from overwhelm to overthinking to over
delivering to over-everything - perfectionism is the enormous
and all consuming drive towards a never-ending destination that
keeps us deeply insecure, dissatisfied and addicted.

Here are five signs you might be addicted to perfectionism:

* You procrastinate (and take forever to finish things)

* You’re terrified of disappointing people (and being
abandoned)

* You are never satisfied (b/c it's never good enough)

* You dwell on mistakes (and obsess about your flaws)

* You don't feel worthy of rest (and are vulnerable to burnout)
