*2.??IRS: Hawaii wildfire victims qualify for tax relief; deadlines postponed to Feb. 15*________________________________________________________________________
The IRS announced expansive tax relief for Hawaii wildfire victims in Maui and Hawaii counties [ [link removed] ]. The tax relief postpones tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred from Aug. 8, 2023, through Feb. 15, 2024. As a result, affected individuals and businesses will have until Feb. 15, 2024, to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due during this period. Under federal law, employers who have educational assistance programs can use them to help pay student loan obligations for their employees.
