1.??Final 2023 IRS Tax Forum takes place next week in Orlando

The final IRS Nationwide Tax Forum of 2023 takes place next week, Aug. 29-31, in Orlando. There?s still time to register and take part in:

  • More than 40 seminars and workshops, earning up to 18 continuing education credits;
  • Share opinions in focus groups;
  • Attend four special events designed with the tax pro in mind;
  • Visit a two-day expo with representatives from tax, financial and business communities offering their products, services and expertise designed with the tax professional in mind. The expo also includes the IRS Zone, featuring various IRS subject matter experts and executives; and
  • Network with fellow tax professionals.

2.??IRS: Hawaii wildfire victims qualify for tax relief; deadlines postponed to Feb. 15

The IRS announced expansive tax relief for Hawaii wildfire victims in Maui and Hawaii counties. The tax relief postpones tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred from Aug. 8, 2023, through Feb. 15, 2024. As a result, affected individuals and businesses will have until Feb. 15, 2024, to file returns and pay any taxes that were originally due during this period. 3.??IRS webinar: Qualified Educational Assistance Programs

Under federal law, employers who have educational assistance programs can use them to help pay student loan obligations for their employees. As part of a wider effort to promote this benefit, the IRS will hold a free webinar on Sept. 14 to help interested taxpayers and tax professionals better understand this special provision. 5.??A tax deduction for increased energy savings may be available for those who qualify

Building owners who install energy efficient commercial building property (EECBP) or energy efficient building retrofit property (EEBRP) may be able to claim a tax deduction.
