This week: Three long-awaited studies released by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health found a link between proximity to fracking and increased cancer rates, asthma attacks and low birth weight ([link removed]) .

* A court ruling has seemingly ended an effort to annex Wilkinsburg into Pittsburgh. Now, a commission is tasked with deciding whether the borough should adopt a home rule charter ([link removed]) , a decision that would effectively transfer some governing power from the state Capitol to Wilkinsburg leaders.
* A PublicSource investigation into Shell's petrochemical complex in Beaver County ([link removed]) shows that, since its opening, the cracker plant has had a litany of malfunctions that have leaked hundreds of tons of hazardous chemical emissions into the surrounding Ohio River Valley. Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection has struggled to keep up with monitoring it.
