** Six Anti-Voting Lawsuits Rebuffed by Courts This Summer ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
By Paige Anderholm
Here are some recent updates.
* In a major victory for voters, a federal court struck ([link removed]) down a portion of Texas voter suppression law Senate Bill 1 — which enacted new ID requirements for mail-in ballots — for violating the Materiality Provision of the Civil Rights Act. Litigation against other provisions of S.B. 1 is ongoing and trial will begin on Sept. 11, 2023. Stay up to date with the case here ([link removed]) .
* In a blow to accessibility, a federal appeals court upheld ([link removed]) an Indiana law that requires voters under the age of 65 to have an excuse to vote by mail. A lawsuit ([link removed]) argued that the law discriminates against younger voters and violates the 26th Amendment.
* The Wisconsin Supreme Court agreed ([link removed]) to hear a case arguing that the state's legislative maps are extreme partisan gerrymanders that unfairly benefit Republicans.
* North Carolina Republicans passed ([link removed]) omnibus voter suppression bill Senate Bill 747. The legislation now heads to Gov. Roy Cooper (D) for his likely veto, but Republicans have enough votes to override his veto.
* An evidentiary hearing has been scheduled ([link removed]) for Aug. 28 on Mark Meadows' request to move his Fulton County, Georgia charges to federal court. Aug. 28 is the same day that a status conference is scheduled ([link removed]) in Trump's Washington, D.C. election subversion case.
Here’s what’s coming up tomorrow.
* There is a hearing in a lawsuit ([link removed]) challenging Washington State’s use of signature matching for mail-in ballots.
