Hello,

Some of my biggest idols are writers like Zora Neale Hurston, Alice Walker, and J. California Cooper. I adored reading their books and plays as a teenager because these Black women helped me shape my own identity.

It’s awful to think that one day, my granddaughter could walk into a library and not find their works – all because extremists are threatened by books that don’t align with their far-right agenda.

Let’s be clear, Black literature, as well as LGBTQ+ literature, is being silenced in a way we haven’t seen in this country in decades. [[link removed]]

It would be detrimental to children for generations to come if they aren’t able to read impactful literature just because it doesn’t fit a politician’s agenda.
