The United States currently has a shortage [[link removed]] of 7.3 million affordable rental homes. In 2022, the median rent nationwide exceeded [[link removed]] the average income for the first time. For households with extremely low incomes, this can translate [[link removed]] to more than 50 percent of wages being spent on rent.

It’s not right that in the wealthiest country in the world, a country founded on the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, people are going without safe and affordable housing.
