It’s not right that in the wealthiest country in the world, people are going without safe and affordable housing.
John,
The United States currently has a shortage of 7.3 million affordable rental homes. In 2022, the median rent nationwide exceeded the average income for the first time. For households with extremely low incomes, this can translate to more than 50 percent of wages being spent on rent.
It’s not right that in the wealthiest country in the world, a country founded on the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, people are going without safe and affordable housing.
Basic housing isn’t a luxury. Housing isn’t a commodity. It is a human and economic right. For us to provide people with opportunities to pursue the American Dream, we must ensure access to quality, affordable housing.
