John, our nation's income inequality has gone too far. 

At this moment, the richest 0.1% of U.S. households hold over 20% of the nation's wealth – a level of inequality that is worse than it was during the Gilded Age.

But the harm doesn't stop there. Because, in addition to holding an absurd amount of wealth, the richest 400 people in the U.S. have 22,000 times the political power of the average American.   

These oligarchs are bending our democracy to suit their whims. They are blocking climate justice, racial justice, Medicare for all, student loan forgiveness, worker power and even getting out of paying their fair share of taxes in exchange for a few million dollars here and there – and we let them get away with it. Not anymore.

It's time to make the top 0.1% pay for all the harm they have caused.

John, a democracy where the wealthiest 400 people can buy elections, politicians and even Supreme Court justices is not a real democracy. That's why my colleagues and I introduced the OLIGARCH Act – which will tax extreme wealth, reduce inequality and combat the threat to democracy posed by aristocracy. 

But the hard truth is that, even if this passes in the House, it'll be a long shot to get this bill to the president’s desk.
