Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) Director Kevin L. Miller announced that up to $7,000 per person is available to Ohioans with disabilities for college, training, and credentialing programs for the 2023 fall term. [ [link removed] ]

“Higher education and a successful future should be available for all students,” said Governor DeWine. “By supporting college and non-traditional students with disabilities through services from OOD and its partners, they are given a greater opportunity of success as they transition from education and training to in-demand careers.”

Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, who serves as Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, announced six regional hubs across the state that will help expand the efforts of Ohio’s Broadband and 5G Sector Partnership locally. [ [link removed] ]

“In today’s economy and workforce, all Ohioans need access to high-speed internet,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “Establishing these regional hubs will regionalize the work of our statewide Broadband and 5G Sector Partnership, empowering local communities to help build the broadband and 5G workforce Ohio needs.”

Governor DeWine announced a historic investment in high-quality tutoring opportunities intended to accelerate learning for Ohio students. [ [link removed] ]More than $26 million in Governor’s Emergency Education Relief funding is being channeled to six high-quality tutoring vendors who will provide services across the state at no cost to schools and districts. Schools and districts can apply to the Ohio Department of Education to access these state-funded high-quality tutoring programs [ [link removed] ].  

“Ohio is investing in programs that make a difference for students, including high-quality tutoring programs,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “This is a new, important resource for our schools and districts.”

DeWine delivers opening remarks at school safety summit

Governor DeWine delivered opening remarks at the start of this year's Ohio School Safety Summit. Following his remarks, he met with members of the Ohio School Safety Center's Student Safety Advisory Council. 

The Ohio School Safety Center [ [link removed] ] was created by Governor DeWine in 2019 as a comprehensive, statewide office focused exclusively on enhancing the safety of Ohio schools.

Governor DeWine and Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Administrator John Logue announced that local volunteer fire departments are now eligible to receive up to $15,000 in grants to pay for firefighting safety gear. [ [link removed] ]

“The safety of our first responders in Ohio is a top priority,” said Governor DeWine. "Making this equipment more accessible to volunteer fire departments will help protect firefighters who are dedicated to the critical work of serving their local communities.”

Lt Governor Husted moderates Innovation Summit

Lt. Governor Husted provided opening remarks and moderated a panel with artificial intelligence (AI) experts from Ohio, and around the nation, as part of the Ohio Innovation Summit. AI panelists at this summit shared their expertise on the functions of AI, along with strategies for businesses, educators, and state and local leaders, so that Ohio can continue its legacy of innovation as this new technology emerges.

DeWine Celebrate Opening Day of Ohio State Fair [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine, First Lady DeWine, and Lt. Governor Husted joined Ohio State Fair General Manager Virgil Strickler to open the gates for the first day of the Ohio State Fair.  [ [link removed] ]

The fair runs through Sunday, August 6 and features traditional family favorites such as the famed butter cow, Smokey Bear, Sky Glider, and Natural Resources Park. There are new exhibits that focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) including COSI's new Space Heartland and Rocket Zone and displays from both Honda and Intel.

"The Ohio State Fair is a great opportunity let kids explore STEAM through new hands-on activities and interactive experiences," said Governor DeWine. "Ohio is the Heart of Innovation, and we're working to inspire Ohio's next generation of scientists and engineers who will play a tremendous role in Ohio's ongoing success." 

“There’s something for everyone at the Ohio State Fair,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “It’s a great place to bring the family or meet up with friends to see all our state has to offer. From agriculture to entertainment, there’s truly something for everyone.”

First Lady DeWine cooks pizza with kids at Ohio State Fair

Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine cooked pizza with kids at the Ohio State Fair inside the Taste of Ohio Café.  First Lady DeWine talked with kids about where food comes from, and she shared healthy herbs and vegetables from the Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden for kids to top their pizzas.

DeWine and Beshear announce Brent Spence design-construction team

Governor DeWine and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that Walsh Kokosing has been awarded the design-build contract for the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project.  [ [link removed] ]

The governors made the announcement during a news conference in Covington, Kentucky, this afternoon.  They were joined by officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). 

“It's great that Kokosing, an Ohio-based company, will play a pivotal role in the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project,” said Governor DeWine. “Both Kokosing and Walsh have a long history of working with the Ohio Department of Transportation, and I'm confident that we have the best people on both sides of the river to see this project to completion."
