This week, I joined Senate Democrats in reintroducing the Freedom to Vote Act.

I’m proud to be a cosponsor of this important bill, and I hope you’ll give me a chance to explain why it’s so important — especially now — to pass this legislation and protect our democracy.


The Freedom to Vote Act will:

- Make Election Day a public holiday 🎉

- Ensure every state allows same-day voter registration ✅

- Set a minimum of 15 consecutive days of early voting for federal elections, including two weekends 🗓️

- Ban partisan gerrymandering 🚫

- Help get Big Money out of politics 💸

This bill is our chance to pass sweeping protections to our democracy, to safeguard the right to vote, end gerrymandering, and to push back against the growing onslaught of voter suppression bills in states across the country.

It includes some of the same proven reforms that I helped implement as California’s Secretary of State to make our elections more accessible and more secure – reforms that all of our Senate colleagues should support to ensure a healthy democracy.

But the sad fact is that Republicans are uninterested in protecting the right to vote. They’d rather maximize their own power at the expense of the majority. So I’m asking for your help to demonstrate that the American people overwhelmingly support these common-sense reforms to our elections.
